DU to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day, Victory Day

Dhaka University (DU) authorities are set to observe the Martyred Intellectuals Day and Victory Day in befitting manners with elaborate programmes.

The decision was made at a meeting held at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building with DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman in the chair recently.

The programmes of Martyred Intellectuals Day include hoisting of black flags at the main points of the DU including Vice-Chancellor's office at 6:15 am on December 14.

On the day, teachers, students, officers and employees of the university will first gather at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 6:35 am and later they will place wreaths at the graveyard adjacent to university central mosque.

Later, teachers, students and university staff led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman will place wreaths at Mirpur Martyred Intellectual Memorial at 11 am.

The programmnes of the Victory Day includes national flag hoisting at the main points of the public university. University teachers, students, officers and employees led by the VC will pay homage to the heros of our independence at National Martyr's Monument, Savar. Apart from this, the university and Chhayanat, a cultural organisation, will jointly organise a concert at university playground. A cultural programme will also be held at TSC in the evening.

DU, Japanese university sign MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Dhaka (DU) and Nara Women’s University of Japan was signed on Monday at the Vice-chancellor’s (VC) lounge of Dhaka University to promote education and research.

Treasurer of DU Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin and President of Nara Women’s University Dr Haruki Imaoka signed the MoU on behalf of their respective universities, said a press release.

According to the MoU, the two universities will exchange teaching staff, researchers, students, academic materials and information.

They will jointly organise seminars, symposia and training programs and will conduct joint collaborative research on various issues.

Chief of Army staff visits BUP

Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq yesterday visited Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at Mirpur Cantonment in Dhaka. The Army Chief inaugurated different developmental projects including day care center, multipurpose shed and Vice-Chancellor (VC)’s Bungalow, said a press release.

Later, he visited different places and highly appreciated the ongoing development activities. Among others, BUP VC Major General Md Salahuddin Miaji, Pro-VC Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder were present.

Proper waste management stressed

to keep JU campus clean

SAVAR: Speakers at a programme underscored the need for following developed waste management system in Jahangirnagar University campus area to keep the environment of the educational institution neat and clean.

JU Waste Management Committee of the university made the remarks at a meeting held at the senate yesterday morning.

Speakers at the programme stressed the need for the waste management system in the campus area as the number of people will increase in the upcoming days during the winter season for guest birds.

Presided over by Prof Khabir Uddin, JU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Abul Hossain addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

JU Pro VC Abul Hossain said, "Everybody should be more careful to use dustbin in the campus area. We need campaign to raise awareness among the general students, teachers, officials and outsiders in this regard".

IU ‘D’ unit admission test results published

KUSHTIA: The results of 'D' unit admission test under Applied Science and Technology Faculty ('D' unit) of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia for its 2017-2018 academic sessions were published on Tuesday night.

Prof M Shamsul Alam, coordinator of the 'D' unit, handed over the results to Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, Vice-Chancellor of the university, around 8:00 pm.

Some 16,702 students, who applied against 250 seats, passed the examination, said Professor M Shamsul Alam.

The results are now available on the university website www.iu.ac.bd.

JUCU gets new committee

SAVAR: Jahangirnagar University Cultural Union (JUCU) has announced a 15-member executive body for the next one year.

Mikha Peregu of the Marketing and Abdullah Bin Bashar Aninda of the English Department made the president and general secretary respectively, said a press release.

The new committee was announced at its annual meeting held at the Teacher Student Center of the university.

The other members of the committee are vice presidents Kaberi Sultana Joti and Nusrat Tuba; joint secretaries Hasan Jamil and Tasnuva Tazin Eva; organising secretary Tasibul Gani Niloy, treasurer Tushar Dhar, publication secretary Bakbeth Neel, joint publication secretary Nilangan De and office secretary Fahim Mukarar, the release said.
