Dhaka Dynamites finished their first round with winning note along with consolidated their position on the points table what they expected in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). After winning in the 12th and last fixture of the first round match, the impetus and confidence what they got as Dynamites batsman Mehedi Maruf said they want to continue it in the next exciting matches.
“We are confident enough after winnings such victory. Now the confidence we have gained to beat any other team. We expect to play better cricket in the next games,” said Mehedi Maruf, who played four matches for defending champions.
Maruf, who came to the limelight during the last BPL for his explosive batting display, said that they needed a win to consolidate their second place on the BPL’s points table.
“In the initial stage, we played our best in some matches. We, thereafter, had needed for a win following our defeats in some close matches,” the 29-year-old batsman said yesterday.
“So, we needed this win for the better place on the points table. There is advantage to be placed on top two positions as it gets chance twice,” he told at the post-match conference. “And there is always pressure if it is in third or fourth place. So, we feel a bit relax,” he added.
When asked about the slow track in Mirpur, Dynamites batsman expressed his unhappiness and said that the surface in Dhaka is not similar to Chittagong and Sylhet.
“I don’t feel so good,” he said, adding: “The wickets in Chittagong are much better than Dhaka. I don’t know why such thing is happening. We have to play despite this.”
Citing the names of Kumar Sangakkara and Khaled Mahmud Sujon, the right-handed batsman, who struck his best 33 in this BPL against Rangpur Riders, said that they have good mentors in the team to boost them all in different states.
“We’ve even such mentors outside to motivate us. We’ve Kumar Sangakkara along with our coach, who both always keeps us boost-up. With the win of team we’re delighted,” he said.
“But it does not happen always. Sometimes we depend on individual performance and sometimes we depend on team’s performance,” he added.
Of the play-off opponent, Comilla Victorians, Maruf said that any team could be beaten in their given day.
“Obviously, they (C.V) have been playing better cricket in the tournament. But in given day, the team who plays better cricket will be winners,” he viewed.
On the other hand, Rangpur Riders marquee batsman Brendon McCullum said that he could be consistent more if he could get a bit better wickets here in BPL.
“I wanted to make more runs. But I am habituated to play at different wickets since last few years. Here I could not ensure about the turn and bounce. Sometimes the balls went over,” said Brendon McCullum, who got a stopgap role of the captaincy against Dhaka Dynamites in place of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
“I talked many about wickets. They informed there was good pitch here. But it is being difficult for a stroke-maker to play shots here,” McCullum told.
“Obviously I should have performed better more. But it would be good if we could have got a bit better pitch. In that case, I could have been consistent more on this slow pitch,” he added.
