The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has served a show-cause letter to Comilla Victorians captain Tamim Iqbal, apparently for his grave criticism of wickets of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
After the match between Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders in which the former secured a hard-fought four-wicket win, chasing a paltry target of 98, Tamim termed wicket as ‘horrible.’ Rangpur captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza also criticised the wicket but the board wasn’t satisfied with the way Tamim’s chose the word to criticise the wicket, Cricket Operations chief Akram Khan believed.
“As far as I am concerned, the BCB has served the letter because they are not satisfied the way he chose his word to criticise the wicket. He is our contracted player and a some certain code of conduct is given to the contracted players,” Akram told the reporters yesterday.
“The disciplinary committee will take the decision after the hearing.”
However Tamim got the support from his team coach Salahuddin who supported his view on the wicket.
“That wasn’t proper T20 wicket and I think that’s why Tamim criticised it. I don’t think he made any mistakes by blaming the wicket,” he said.
Earlier on Sunday, BPL governing council member secretary Ismail Haider Mallick also said the Mirpur wicket is not ideal for T20 matches but he refused to term it as horrible. He also said that they ordered the curator to make it more batting-friendly wicket.
