Chittagong Vikings finished their campaign for this year’s BPL, signing off at the bottom of the points table. However, they got a consolation yesterday beating Rajshahi Kings by 45 runs at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Luis Reece carried the bat throughout the innings as Chittagong Vikings compiled a hefty total of 194 for two, that they successfully defended by restricting Rajshahi to 149 for nine after Samit Patel scared them with a whirlwind 26-ball 62. The English all-rounder, Reece, was not out on 56-ball 80, hitting four fours and three sixes to get the side to a strong position.
He shared 89 runs for the opening stand with captain Luke Ronchi who also struck four fours and three sixes in 42 off 33. Soumya Sarkar was the one who didn’t make a considerable contribution as he was out on 17. Sikandar Raza then gave Reece a perfect support in finishing on a high, sharing an undefeated 86 runs. Raza was on 20-ball 42, smashing three fours and as many sixes.
Mehidy Hasan Miraj bagged both of scalps, conceding just 18 runs. Reece then made a valuable contribution in bowling also as he dismissed Samit Patel who kept the tough chase alive, showering boundaries at will all through the park. Patel smashed 62 off 26, with six fours and five sixes before Reece got the better of him.
After his dismissal, it was just a one-way traffic as Chittagong bowlers made regular inroads to script their only third victory in the tournament.
They, however, finished the tournament with 7 points in 11 matches, the lowest in the seven-team tournament. Rajshahi occupied the sixth position with 9 points.
