Scorned for giving birth to baby girl, woman ‘kills’ infant

Rajshahi: Apparently failing to bear the scorn and misbehaviour by her husband for giving birth to the 2nd girl, a young woman allegedly strangulated her one-month-old daughter to death at Tema Schoolpara village in Mohanpur upazila on Monday, reports UNB.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy. They also arrested Jahura Begum, 22, wife of Habibur Rahman of Chanduria village in Tanore upazila, after victim’s grandfather filed a case over the murder.

SM Abul Quashem, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station, said Jahura confessed to killing her daughter.

She claimed that Habibur started misbehaving with her since she gave birth to the 2nd baby girl one month back, he said.

On Sunday, Habibur took back their elder daughter from her father’s house but did not take her and their newborn daughter, the OC said quoting Jahura.

Out of anger, she killed her daughter, he said.
