Concert for DUCSU election held
Demanding immediate Dhaka University Central Students Union election, a concert was held on the campus on Monday expressing solidarity with Walid Ashraf, a student of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, who has been on a hunger strike since November 25.
Students from different departments of the university and different band groups had participated in the concert demanding DUCSU poll soon.
Members of Dhaka University Mime Action also performed on the occasion.
Two proxy examinees at IU jailed
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Islamic University (IU) authorities arrested two proxy examinees during the second shift admission test of B unit under Humanities and Social Science Faculty for 2017-18 academic session on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Kawsar Ali, also a former student of IUs Applied Nutrition and Food Technology Department, and M Alam, an Economics Department student of Bogra Azizul Haque College. IU Proctor Prof Dr M Mahbubar Rahman told UNB that duty invigilators suspected the duo seeing their behaviour and informed the matter to the proctorial body. At one stage, they confessed to acting as proxy. Kawsar was appearing at the examination for Rifat Sheikh while Alam for Sohanur Rahman. Later, a mobile court sentenced them to one-year imprisonment and fined Kawsar Tk 40,000 and Alam Tk 10,000, he said.
IU A, H unit admission test results published
ISLAIC UNIVERSITY: The admission test results of A unit under Theology and Islamic Studies Faculty and H unit under Law and Shariah Faculty for the academic session 2017-18 of Islamic University (IU) here were published on Monday.
IU Vice-chancellor (VC) Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari formally published the results of both units while Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha, Proctor Professor Dr M Mahbubar Rahman, among others, were present.
A unit coordinator Professor Dr Abul Barakat M Faruk and H unit coordinator Professor Dr Nurun Nahar handed over the result to VC at 5.00pm and 8.30pm respectively on the day.
CSE fest 2017 held at Eastern University
Eastern University Computing Club (EUCC) arranged an annual mega event CSE FEST 2017 on Sunday, says a press release. Prof Md Nurul Islam, Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of Eastern University inaugurated the event. Prof Md Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dewan Amana Sultana, Controller of Examinations; Mohammad Imtiaj, Director of Public Relations Office and Faculties of ET were present at that time.
The 30th Intra-University Programming Contest was also a part of the event. Besides the programming contest, the daylong event also included various fun games and contest such as Idea Contest, where students presented many innovative ideas that can help people and change society for the better.
After the festivities, there was a Digital World 2017 Activation Seminar and the award giving ceremony. Dr M Kaykobad, Professor, Department of CSE, BUET was present as the chief guest of the ceremony.
Lecture on Ensuring Quality in Learning and Teaching held at IUB
The office of the Pro-vice-chancellor at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised a guest lecture entitled, Ensuring Quality in Learning and Teaching recently at IUB campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
The key speaker of the seminar was Prof Sherman Young, pro-vice chancellor, Learning and Teaching, Macquarie University, Australia.
Prof Milan Pagon, pro-vice-chancellor, IUB, delivered the welcome speech.
Workshop on econometrics begins at JU
SAVAR: A 5-day workshop on Econometrics began at Jahangirnagar University on Sunday.
Masters students of Economics Department organised the workshop which was inaugurated by Prof Nurul Haque of Economics department.
Among others, prominent economist Professor Anu Mohammed, Assistant Professor Nahid Sultana, Lecturer Nusrat Afroz Tania spoke at the workshop. A total of 23 papers will be presented by the students at the workshop.
