Bangladesh U-19 National Football Team will lock
horns with their Bhutanese counterpart in their maiden encounter of the Group-A clash in the SAFF Under-19 Championship at Army Ground in Kathmandu, Nepal at 3:45 pm today.
A total of six teams, splitting into two groups, are taking part in the 10-day-long tournament. Bangladesh have been clubbed in the Group-A alongside Bhutan and the hosts Nepal. Group-B has been formed by India, Afghanistan and Maldives.
The visiting side left the country for Nepal on August 18, just four days ahead of their match though the six-nation championship started with Nepal and Bhutan match on August 20. Before going to Nepal, the youth team played two practice matches, where they won the first match against Army by 1-0 and drew 1-1 in the second match against Abahani Limited.
They will face-off their last group match against the hosts Nepal on August 24 at the same venue.
The visitors did their intense practice at the rain-soaked Army Ground yesterday. After their practice session, both captain and team head coach spoke with media.
“All the players are physically well. We are mentally prepared and ready to give tough fight. We want to win the match to play in the semi-final match of the championship,”said Masuk Mia Jony, captain of Bangladesh.
“We must have to win the match to qualify in the semi-final match. We all see the match video of Bhutan team. They are much improved then before because they are now playing quick Football. But we also know how to tackle them. Our first target is to reach the semi-final and then to be champions,” Bangladesh head coach Saiful Bari Titu told media.
