Fahad upsets GM Zia in nat’l chess

FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman upset GM Ziaur Rahman in a 9th round game of the Omicon Group 43rd National ‘A’ Chess Championship-2017 at the Bangladesh Chess Federation auditorium in the capital yesterday. FM Fahad played with black pieces against English Opening of GM Zia and the former won after 43 moves.

Reigning champion GM Enamul Hossain and runner-up GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib are now jointly leading the points table with 7.5 points each after 9th round games.

GM Ziaur Rahman is in 2nd position with 6,5 points. FM. Kh. Aminul Islam and FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman are jointly in 3rd position with 5.5 points each.

 GM Enamul played with white pieces against Sicilian Defense of FM Nasir and GM Enamul won at 33rd move. GM Rakib drew with IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin in their respective matches.

GM Rakib played with white pieces to choosing the Retti Opening, GM Rakib offered draw to IM Minhaz at 14th move than IM Minhaz agreed for draw.respective ninth round games. The 10th round games will be held today from 3:00pm.
