DU to hold victory rally tomorrow
The authority of Dhaka University (DU) will bring out a victory rally on the campus on December 3 as part of the Victory Day celebration programme.
The rally will begin from Aparajeyo Bangla at 11 am. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman will lead the rally, a university press release said here on Thursday.
The rally will end at Swadhinata Chattar in the historic Suhrawardy Udyan following a musical function where the Music Department of the university will perform the ‘Muktir Gaan’ and ‘Bijoyer Gaan’. The academic and administrative activities of the university will remain closed from 10.30 am to 12 pm on that day, the release added.
Indian delegation meets DU VC
A six-member delegation led by Professor Chandan Goswami of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, India paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman today at his office of the university.
Other team members were Shuvashis Das Gupta, Abdul Razzak, Amitava Das, Sougata Bhattacharya and Kaustav Mukherjee, said a DU release here.
Director of the Bose Centre for Advanced Study and Research in Natural Sciences of DU Prof Supriya Saha was present on this occasion. During the meeting they stressed the need for strengthening cultural exchange programmes between Bangladesh and India. The Indian delegates expressed their willingness to produce a documentary film on late SN Bose, a famous Prof of DU Physics Department. DU VC thanked the guests for their willingness in this regard, the release added.
RU 1st year admission process begins Dec 3
The admission process for the 1st year honours course in the academic sessions of 2017-18 will begin at the Rajshahi University (RU) from the December 3, Prof Khademul Islam Molla, administrator of university ICT Centre said.
The final merit lists (after viva) of seven units out of nine units have been already published while remaining two others will be disclosed very soon.
Mentionable that, the written test was held from October 22 to 26 while some 3,16,120 admission seekers took apart against 4,636 seats under 59 departments of nine faculties and two institutes this academic year.
Photography exhibition begins at JU
SAVAR: A 3-day photography exhibition began at Jahir Raihan auditorium of Jahangirnagar University.
The media and photography club of the university organised the exhibition in association with Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics.
Professor Md Motaher Hossain, director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of JU, inaugurated the exhibition around 3:00 pm on Thursday. The photo exhibition will continue until November 2 and it end through a prize distribution session.

Reunion of ex-students of Muslim High School Dec 22
A reunion of ex-students of Dhaka Government Muslim High School will be held on the school premises near Bahadur Shah Park in the old part of the capital on December 22, said a press release on Saturday.

DU VC urges int'l community to solve Rohingya crisis
Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman on Wednesday urged the leaders of international community to come forward with their humanitarian values to solve the Rohingya crisis.
“The leaders of international community should come forward with their humanitarian values to solve the ongoing Rohingyas crisis as it is not only the challenge for Bangladesh but also for the entire world,” he said.
He made this comment while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the two-day long international conference titled “Ending the Slow Burning Genocide of Rohingyas by Myanmar” at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium on the campus, said a DU release here. Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) organised the conference in cooperation with Euro-Burma Office.
Professor Emeritus of the Department of English of DU Dr Serajul Islam Choudhury, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Bauddha Kristi Procher Sangha Sanghanayak Suddhananda Mahathero and Chair Emeritus of Parliament of the World Religions Dr Malik Mujahid addressed it as the guests
of honour. Coordinator of RMMRU Professor CR Abrar conducted the programme, the release added. Akhtaruzzaman also demanded trial of the perpetrators of genocide by the International Criminal Court.
VC also thanked the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for providing shelter to Rohingya people, who fled from the Rakhine state of Myanmar due to persecution, in Bangladesh.
Academicians, researchers and human rights activists from different countries including Bangladesh, USA, Australia, Germany, Malaysia, India and Nepal are participating in the conference, the release added.
