Fraud arrested at Savar   

Police arrested a fraud on Wednesday at Nabinagar in Ashulia for allegedly taking huge amount of money from people alluring them to give jobs in government offices.

The arrestee is identified as Khokon, son of Taijul Molla from Aminpur village of Pabna.

Sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, Wahid Mia told UNB that Khokon took a few lakhs of taka from a person named Razon by alluring him to give a job in Bangladesh Army as an office assistant.

 In the morning, members of detective agency of the army held him and informed the police, he added.

 Khokon had been cheating many people and taking huge amount of money from them enticing them with fake jobs.

Moitry launching ceremony today   

Moitry, an alumni association of Bangladeshi students who studied in India, will start its journey today.

The gala launching ceremony will be held at 6pm at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, the HC made the announcement on Tuesday.

The event will be organised in association with the High Commission of India. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, will attend the launching ceremony as the chief guest.

Members and friends of Moitry will be present on the occasion, which will also feature a cultural programme by its some members.

DB official held with 1,000 yaba tablets in Ctg   

Police arrested a member of Detective Branch (DB) of police along with 1,000 pieces of yaba tablets from Moizzartek area of Chittagong on Tuesday evening.

The detainee is Anwar Hossian, 35, an assistant sub-inspector of district Detective Branch of police,

Karnaphuli Police Station officer-in-charge Sayedul Mostafa said based on secret information a team of Chittagong Metropolitan DB police conducted a drive here and detained Anwar along with a private car.

Later, DB police seized 1,000 pieces of contraband tablets from his possession and handed him over to the police station. A case was filed.

Two killed in road mishap

Two persons including a local Juba League leader were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a private car and a truck at Arongghata intersection on Khulna bypass road in the city Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Sohel Rana, 33, joint convener of Keshobpur upazila unit Jubo League and Rafiqul Islam, 28, driver of the private car.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Arongghata Police Station Kazi Rezaul Haque told  BSS yesterday that the accident took place around 9 pm yesterday while a jute laden speedy truck collided head-on with a private car, leaving the duo dead on the spot and three others injured.

JS body on Defence meets

Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Ministry on Wednesday held its 28th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here with its Chairman Major General Mohammad Shubid Ali Bhuiyan (retd) in the chair.

Committee members Law Minister Anisul Huq, Lt Col Muhammad Faruk Khan (retd), Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury and Hosne Ara Begum took part in the meeting.

It recommended further scrutinising the “The Cantonment Bill 2017” with the coordination of Defence Ministry, three forces and legislative wing of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat representatives to formulate a pro-people law.
