Cabinet body okays proposal to hire 900 workers

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase yesterday approved four proposals, including one for hiring a private firm to supply 900 workers for the 2D seismic survey and another for importing 25,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Saudi Arabia, reports UNB.

The committee gave the approval to the proposals at a meeting held with Finance Minister AMA Muhith in the chair.

As per the proposal placed by the Energy Division, private company Arneeb Enterprise will supply 900 workers of different grades for the 2D seismic survey of state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) at a contract value of Tk 26.54 crore.

The Bapex will conduct the 2D seismic survey in 3,000 line km-area under block-8 and block-11 as part of the government's plan to drill 108 wells for gas exploration from April 2017 to June 2019.

The area includes Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Tangail, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Mymensingh, Netrakona and Sunamganj.

The private firm was selected under the Speedy Increase of Power and Energy Supply Act 2010 through shortlisting firms.

The committee also gave its nod to two more proposals of the Energy Division to procure well completion materials for Kashba-1 and

Salda (North)-1 wells for drilling work and necessary machinery for operation of Bapex's own drilling ring.
