A Juba League leader was killed in a factional clash of Awami League during a programme marking the National Mourning Day and August 21 grenade attack anniversary at Chandra in Kaliakoir upazila yesterday, reports UNB. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Muzammel Huq attended the programme as the chief guest. Soon after the minister left the venue around 5pm, two factions of the ruling party engaged in a clash over previous enmity. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, former president of Kaliakoir upazila unit of Juba League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League.
Kaliakoir Police OC M Omar Faruk said local AL arranged a food distribution programme on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu College ground at Chandra yesterday marking the 40th anniversary of the martyrdorm of Bangabandhu and 11th anniversary of the grenade attack. Rafiqul was stabbed with sharp weapons during the clash, leaving him critically injured. He died on the way to hospital, said the OC.
