Two killed in road crash

Two female madrasa students were killed and two others injured in a road accident at Naudhar in Trishal upazila on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway yesterday morning.
The dead were identified as Nipa Akhtar, 14, a class-X student and Nadia Binte Hossain, a class-IX student at Trishal Abbasia Fazil Madrasa, police said.
Quoting local people, Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal police station, said Nipa and Nadia along with two other fellow students were going on foot to Trishal upazila headquarters to attend their coaching classes at around 7 am yesterday.
A Mymensingh-bound truck knocked them from behind as its driver lost control over the steering, injuring Nipa and Nadia severely.
They were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where Nipa died at around 10 am while Nadia succumbed to her injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), police said.
Two other injured female students were given first aid, police said.
The bodies were sent to MMCH and DMCH morgues for autopsy. Police seized the truck but failed to arrest its driver.
Journos want arrest of attackers

Journalists in Jessore formed a human chain in front of Jessore Press Club yesterday morning demanding
arrest of the attackers of Jahidul Kabir Milton, joint
secretary, Jessore Press Club and also executive member of the ruling party-backed Federal Union of Journalists.
The journalist leader was tortured allegedly by the ruling party men after being abducted from near Jessore head post office at around 12:30pm on August 19.
 He is now undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital with severe injuries.
Journalists from different media took part in the proragmme.
