Vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Saniyat Khan Bappa and his seven associates have been charge-sheeted in BNP leader and chairman of Dynna UP Rafiqul Islam murder case.
Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Sinha of the Detective Branch Police in Tangail submitted the charge-sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday noon after 20 months of the incident. Bappa has been identified as a mastermind and fund supplier who ordered his associates for killing the BNP leader.
Bappa is the youngest brother of AL lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, who has been absconding for a long time following AL leader Farook Ahmed murder.
The seven other accused in the Rafiqul Islam murder case are Shajahan Miah body guard of Bappa, Shafiqur Rahman of Charkagmara, Sanjit Ghosh of Daynna, Azad Fakir of Kagmara, Sujon Miah of Kathua Jugni, Sanwar Hossain of Sarifalata and Roosevelt Ahmed of Chotikabari of Tangail Sadar Upazila.
Of the eight, Shahjahan, Sujan, Sanower are in jail. Bappa has been absconding as he is indicted in AL leader Farook Ahmed murder case. Others are also at large.
Rafiqul Islam Faruque, vice-president of Tangail Sadar upazila unit of BNP and chairman of Dynna Union Parishad, was shot dead by some criminals near his
house at Battala Bazar area in Tangail town on December 20, 2013.
Faruque’s younger brother Lavlu Miah lodged a murder case with Tangail model police station the following day, accusing 11 Awami League men of the union. The case was later handed over to the DB police for investigation.
During investigation, DB found no evidence of AL men’s involvement in the killing.
The law enforcers unearthed clue of the murder after they had arrested Shajahan Miah, Sanwar Hossain and Sujon Miah, three associates of BCL leader Bappa. The IO said during investigation the three admitted their involvement in the killing. They confessed before the court under section 164 about the involvement of eight, including BCL leader Bappa.
