Power failure halts nat’l chess games

There no games were held of Omicon Group 43rd National ‘A’ Chess Championship yesterday at Chess Federation hall-room in 2nd floor of National Sports Council old building due to power failure. However, 5th round games will be held today from 3:00pm at the same venue. 5th round games are: WIM Shamima Akter Liza vs. FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed, FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman vs. FM Mehdi Hasan Parag, GM Enamul Hossain vs. FM Kh. Aminul Islam, GM Ziaur Rahman vs. IM Mphammad Minhaz Uddin, S M Sharon vs. CM Chanchal Kumar Ghosh, IM Abu Sufian Shakil vs. Md. Sharif Hossain and FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman vs GM Mollah Abdullah Rakib.

GM Enamul Hossain, GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib and FM Kh. Aminul Islam are sharing lead in the points table with 3.5 points each after 4th round. GM Ziaur Rahman is in 2nd position with 3 points.

Asian Amateur Chess The Asian Amateur Chess Championship-2017 began from Friday at Chiang Mai in Thailand. Kazi Md. Mahbub Afzal from Bangladesh is participating in the event.

In the first round Afzal beat Houston Jay of Thailand. Afzal lost his second round game yesterday to FM Wiwatanadate Poompong of Thailand. Afzal earned 1 points out of 2 games.
