Three separate cases were filed with Gomastapur police station yesterday over the killing of four alleged robbers in mass beating at Mokrampurghat in Gomastapur upazila of the district. OC of Gomostapur police Firoj Ahmed said a case was filed for attempting to commit robbery and another case was filed under the arms act accusing 10/12 robbers. Sub-inspector Ashraf filed a murder case accusing some unnamed men. The OC said a gang of 10-12 alleged robbers intercepted a motorcyclist in Mokrampurghat area near Mohananda bridge on the Rohonpur-Bholahat road at around 7:15 pm and tried to take away the bike. Hearing victim’s screams, local people rushed to the spot and gave them a mass-beating, leaving them critically injured. Police rushed to the spot and took the four to the upazila health complex, where they succumbed to their injuries. Police detained the driver of a van, reportedly used by the robbers.
