Month-long ‘Street Theatre Festival’ begins in capital

The winter session of the month-long ‘Bangladesh Patha Natak Utsab 2017’ (Bangladesh Street Theatre Festival) has begun on Friday on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.

With the slogan ‘Joy Hok Manusher, Khoy Hok Durbitter’ (Long live man, down with the evils), Bangladesh Pathanatok Parishad has organised the month-long festival.  

Veteran cultural personality Syed Hasan Imam inaugurated the festival on Friday, while Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu and Presidium member of Grameen Theatre Federation Jhuna Chowdhury were present as special guests. Presided over by Bangladesh Pathanatak Parishad president Mannan Hira, dramatist Roton Siddiqui, Group Theatre Federation general secretary Akhtaruzzaman and Pathanatok Parishad vice-president Dr Mohammad Bari delivered speech at the inaugural ceremony.

A total of five plays was staged after the inauguration. Moitree Theatre staged their street play ‘Filmi Karbar’ scripted by Joynal Abedin and directed by Kazi Shahidur Rahman, while Theatre Art Unit brought ‘Jonom Dukhi Maa’ under the direction of Muhammad Bari at the festival venue.

Besides, Rangapith Natyadal staged their street drama ‘Sada Kalo’ scripted and directed by Sazzad Lipon.  Chandrakala Theatre took the stage with their play ‘Jodi Kichu Mone Na Koren’ and Kormijibi Nari Natyadal presented their play ‘Kole Bandha Jebon’ directed by Swadhin Shah.

The festival will continue till May 1, which will be taking place at different places in the capital.

To note, since 1992, Bangladesh Patrakhak Parishad has been organising a street show on Fridays in the winter season every year.
