Recognition of March 7 speech celebrated at campuses
Recognition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic March 7 speech by Unesco was celebrated across the country yesterday. Several programmes have been chalked out to mark the day.
Our JU correspondent says: The authority of Jahangirnagar University (JU) celebrated the Unesco’s recognition of the historic March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner. Marking the occasion, the university authority brought out a jubilee procession from Business Studies Faculty at 10 am.
JU Vice Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam inaugurated the procession as the chief guest. The procession paraded different streets on the campus and ended through a short gathering at the JU Central Shaheed Minar.
JU Pro VC (academic) Professor Abul Hossain, Treasurer Professor Monjurul Huq and Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique, dean of different faculties, provosts of different dormitories, teachers, officials, employees and students of different departments and institute took part in the procession.
Our BAU correspondent reports: Teachers, students and officials of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) brought out a joyous rally at the campus. The rally, led by the Pro-vice chancellor Professor Dr Jasim Uddin Khan, was brought out from ‘Bangabandhu Smriti Chhattar’. Later, they placed floral wreaths at the monument of Bangabandhu.
Our RU correspondent adds: Teachers, students and officials of Rajshahi University (RU) brought out a jubilee procession, led by RU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan. The procession was brought out from Sabas Bangladesh playground and after marching several roads on the campus it ended at the Shaheed Minar premises. Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Ananda Kumar Shaha, Treasurer Prof Dr AKM Mostafizur Rahman, Register Prof Dr MA Bari, Student Advisor Prof Jannatul Ferdaus, Public Relation Officer Prof Provash Kumar Karmakar, among others, were present at the programme.
Japanese art exhibition at DU
A two-day long group art exhibition titled “Art Education Project” by Japanese Professor Tayomi Hosina, vice-president of Tokyo University of Arts and his team began yesterday in Zainul Gallery-2 of the fine arts faculty of Dhaka University (DU).
Department of Drawing and Painting, DU organised the exhibition in courtesy of Bengal foundation. Vice Chancellor of DU Professor Aktaruzzaman inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest while dean of the faculty Nisar Hossain was present as special guest.
Coordinator of the project Associate Professor of Department of Drawing and Painting of DU Dr Mohammad Iqbal said the purpose of the project is to promote exchange of the artists and students between Japan and Bangladesh.
“This is a part of exchange programme between Department of Drawing and Painting, DU and Department of Oil Painting of Tokyo University of Arts. The works which are being exhibited is done through different media installation, painting and so on.”
The participants are Yuko Takahara (Research Assistant), Masayuki Oku (MFA 2nd Year), Akane Tazai ( MFA, 2nd Year), Cho JA Young ( MFA, 1st year), Chie Kamekura (MFA, 1st Year), Ayumi Kanno ( MFA 1st Year), Yoko Hoshino ( MFA, 1st Year).
International Geographical Conf held at JU
A day long international conference titled “Water issues and sustainable development” was held at Jahir Raihan auditorium of Jahangirnagar University on Friday.
Bangladesh National Geographical Association (BNGA) organised the conference in association with the Geography and Environment Department of the university for the 15th time. JU Vice Chcancellor Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the conference as the chief guest while Pro VC Prof Amir Hussain, Pro VC Prof Abul Hossain and treasures Prof Sheikh Monzurul Huq addressed the conference as special guest.
Prof Syed Rafiqul Alam Rumi, Geography and Environmental Studies department of Rajshahi University chaired the conference while Professor Ranjan Basu of Calcutta university of India presented the key note paper at the conference.
A total of 70 research papers on water issues and sustainable development were presented by teachers and students at the conference.
Around 200 teachers, students and researchers were present at the conference.
ULAB holds seminar on digital financial services
The ULAB Center for Enterprise and Society (CES) organised a seminar titled “A closer look at Financial Inclusion in Bangladesh” recently at ULAB’s auditorium in Dhanmondi.
The seminar featured a panel consisting of Professor Imran Rahman, special advisor to the Board of Trustees at ULAB, Faisal Hussain, team leader, Business Finance for the Poor in Bangladesh (BFP-B), a UKAID-funded project; Arfan Ali, managing director and president, Bank Asia Ltd; and Jaheed Parvez, Digital Financial Services advisor, FHI 360. The seminar started off with a presentation on Financial Inclusion in Bangladesh conducted by Sajid Amit, director of CES.
Over 200 students and faculty members attended the event. The panel discussion was wrapped up with a question and answer session with students and a small ceremony in which Professor Rahman presented crests to the panelists.
IUB inter private university table tennis tournament concludes
The grand finale and closing ceremony of a 3-day long IUB Inter Private University Table Tennis Tournament concluded on Saturday at IUB campus in Bashundhara.
Rashed Chowdhury, chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB, and Prof M Omar Rahman, vice chancellor of IUB witnessed the final match as the chief guest and special guest respectively and later on, distributed prizes among the winners. Prof Milan Pagon, pro vice-chancellor of the university was also present on the occasion.
A total of 15 private universities participated in the tournament.
