RAJSHAHI: Bangladesh should attain knowledge-based economic progress quickly to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reports UNB. It will be the greatest challenge which will be supportive towards creating skilled and competitive entrepreneurs. This view was expressed at a daylong workshop on Thursday by a host of speakers who urged all concerned to discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to supplement the government endeavor to achieve SDGs within the stipulated time. The divisional level participatory workshop titled “Localisation, Investment Planning, Individual level Entrepreneurs Creation and Skill Development" was held at Nanking Darbar Hall. Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) of Prime Minister's Office and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) jointly organized the workshop with financial support from the UNDP.
Joining the workshop as chief guest, SDG Affairs Chief Coordinator Abul Kalam Azad said we have many problems but there are enormous prospects.
After facing the problems as challenge we have to utilise the prospects for welfare of the nation.
To this end, personal commitment is very important to the gigantic activities of SDG implementation.
“If we were committed to our own responsibility, SDGs could be achieved,” he added. Collective effort of all government and non-government organisations concerned is very vital for attaining all SDGs and 169 targets for overall development of the nation.
“Bangladesh will be a role model in the world in achieving the criteria of the SDGs by 2030.
The country had earlier achieved the target of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) by 2015 as set by the United Nations”,he said.
With Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman in the chair, BIDA Executive Chairman Kazi Aminul Islam, Member (General Economy) of Planning Commission Dr Shahmsul Alam, Senior Secretary of Water Resource Ministry Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan and Acting Secretary of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry Dr Namita Halder also spoke in the workshop.
Abul Kalam Azad said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought Bangladesh to be showcased as an international model for SDG 6, involving clean water and sanitation, through adopting appropriate strategy and action plan.
More than 150 persons comprising district magistrates, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, public representatives, members of the civil society and professional leaders from eight districts under the division joined the workshop.
