Six get life term for killing trader

Six people, including wife of the man killed in Mirzapur upazila in 2004, were sentenced to life term imprisonment by a court on Wednesday.
Abu Mansoor Mia, the Additional Second District and Session Judge of Tangail, convicted them for the crime.
The court also fined Tk one lakh each, in default to suffer one more rigorous imprisonment.
The convict are Sajeda Begum, wife of Abbas, Sajeda’s brother Josim uddin, lover of Sajeda Kalu Mia, Rayej Uddin of Bower Kumarjani in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail, Monower Hossain of Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka and Jalal Uddin of Daulatpur upazila under Manikganj district. The court acquitted Parvej Hasan and Mukter Ali of Ashulia of the charge.
The prosecution case in brief is that trader Abbas Ali, a trader of village Bower Kumarjani, was killed on November 4, 2004. His beheaded body was recovered from a jungle near his house the next day. Afterwards, Abdul Majid, brother of Abbas Ali, lodged a murder case with Mirzapur police station. Police arrested Josim Uddin and Jalal Uddin on charge of murder. Later, they gave confessional statement to the court about the murder.
Sajeda, wife of Abbas, used to maintain illicit connection with Kalu Mia. To grab Abbas Ali’s properties Sajeda in collaboration with other accused in the case hired two murderers -- Monower and Jalal -- to kill Abbas.
Police submitted charge-sheets against eight people, including Abbas Ali’s wife and her brother. The court after examining the charge sheets, witnesses and other relevant papers found six people guilty and pronounced the verdict.
Abdul Majid said he was happy with the verdict.  Additional PP Nurul Islam pleaded in favour of the state while Adv Abul Kashem, Meer Shamsul Alam Shahajada, Shamimul Akhter Shameem, Shameem Hossain stood in favour of the accused.
