3 Bangladeshis shot dead in USA, S Africa
Three expatriate Bangladeshis have been shot dead by assailants in USA and South Africa. One Shahidul Alam (55) was gunned down by assailants in Florida, USA yesterday (BST), while the other two, including Alauddin Jewel (30), were shot dead in Johannesburg of South Africa on Wednesday. The identity of the other deceased could not be ascertained while filing of this report around 8pm yesterday.
In Florida, Shahidul Alam of Bankpara of Gopalganj town, owner of a department store, was killed when a group of 4-5 miscreants opened fire at Shahidul in front of his residence, according to agencies.
Hasmat Ali Shikdar Chunnu, brother-in-law of the victim, said Shahidul was entering his residence around 10pm on Wednesday (local time), leaving him dead on the spot.
In South Africa, Alauddin Jewel (30), of Baliakandi village under Senbag upazila of Noakhali, and his partner from Bangladesh were gunned down by assailants inside their shop.
Khaja Mainuddin, father of Jewel, said passing the HSC examination in 2004 Jewel went to South Africa. There he started a business in a Johannesburg market with a partner and they were sleeping after closing their shop at night.
Md. Kamal, a friend of Jewel from Johannesburg, informed Mainuddin over mobile phone that in the early hours of Wednesday (local time) some miscreants broke into their shop.
The miscreants demanded money from the duo but they refused. At one stage the miscreants shot at them, causing their deaths.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the hospital for completion of necessary formalities. The bodies are expected to reach to Bangladesh tomorrow, Jewels father said.
Earlier on June 4, 2014, a Bangladeshi student of Palm Beach State College, Shihab Mamun, 22, was shot dead by miscreants in the US state of Florida. Mamun hailed from Netrokona.
