Speakers at a conference on Thursday urged the garment owners and the government to ensure a women-friendly and safe workplace, and fair wages for female workers, reports UNB. Ogrojatra, Awaj Foundation, Karmajibi Nari, Safety and Rights, Sangsaptak and ActionAid Bangladesh in association with the European Union (EU) organised the conference titled “Women-friendly and safe workplace” at the Jatiya Press Club. Addressing the conference, Joint Secretary to the Labour and Employment Ministry M Tayabul Islam said the government is working to ensure a safe environment at the RMG units after the Tazreen Fashions and Rana Plaza tragedies. Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Secretary AKM Fazlur Rahman said the atmosphere at the country's garment factories has improved a lot.
