The country’s land ports earned a total revenue of Tk 111.44 crore in 2016-17 fiscal while the expenditure was Tk 53.44 crore, reports BSS. This was disclosed at the 48th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Shipping Ministry yesterday with its Chairman Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair, said an official release. Committee members Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Talukder Abdul Khaleq, Md Abdul Hai, Md Habibur Rahman, M Abdul Latif and Md Anowarur Azim (Anar) were present in the meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban. The meeting held discussions on the overall activities of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) and Bangladesh Land Port Authority. The JS body was informed that the infrastructure development work under the project ‘SASEC Road Connectivity Project: Improvement of Benapole and Burimari Land Port’ is going on with the financial assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB), the release added. Acting secretary of the shipping ministry, and senior officials of the ministry and the JS secretariat, among others, were present in the meeting.
