Nurul Islam

Dr Nurul Islam, the founding chairman of English Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) passed away at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday night. He was 78. Professor Nurul left behind wife, a daughter, 2 sons, relatives, well-wishers and a host of admirers to mourn his death. Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Prof Farzana Islam yesterday expressed profound shock at the death of the Professor Nurul Islam. In a condolence message, the VC said that his death is an irreparable loss for the country. "He would be remembered for his outstanding research activities in the field of English literature," she added.
