JMB operative held at Uttara

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from the capital’s Uttara area on Tuesday midnight.

“We arrested a JMB operative Ayub, 21, son of Abu Taher of Cox's Bazar, from in front of Pacific Tower on road no-13, sector-10 of Uttara along with religious fanatic books around 11.30pm on Tuesday," Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem of RAB-1 told BSS on Wednesday. A patrol team of the RAB-1 entrusted with ensuring security of the Biswa Ijtema on the bank of Turag River, arrested the JMB man for his suspected movement in the area and recovered fanatic books from his possession, he also said. A case was lodged in this connection.

4 CU students detained while taking yaba

Four students of the Chittagong University (CU) wee held while taking contraband yaba tablets from AF Rahman Hall in CU on Wednesday night.

The students were identified as Sakhawat, Tanmoy, Nakib and Hirok Chawkma. All of them are second year student of Anthropology department of the university.

They are known as activists of CU BCL suspended committee and follower of Fazly Rabby Sujan general secretary of the committee. CU Proctor Ali Asgar Chowdhury said, “We nabbed four students of Anthropology department while taking yaba tablets from their room. All of them are students of 2015-2016 session. We already handed over them to the Hathazari Police station.

2 JCD leaders arrested

Police arrested two leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Tuesday night. They were identified as Ferdous Ahmed Babul, the information and research secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Gazipur district unit and Saiful Haque Mollah, president of Sreepur upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD). Police from Sreepur model police station arrested them from Moddhobazar area.  Sub-inspector of Sreepur model police station Sayeed Azizul Haque said, in a secrete information, police conducted a raid in the area and arrested them.  There were warrant against them in an arson case and vehicle vandalism case in 2015. They were sent to Gazipur court on Wednesday noon.

Two shopkeepers held at RU

Police of Motihar Thana arrested two shopkeepers for assaulting proctor and also beating up a student of the Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday noon.

The arrestees were identified as the owner of “Food Corner” Nizam Uddin Alam and Munna. Witness and university proctor office sources said that during the intake test last month Alam extended his shop in front first science building of the university.
