IU observes 39th University Day
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia observed its 39th University Day on the occasion of its 38th founding anniversary on Wednesday. A daylong programme, including procession, discussion, and cultural session, was held on the campus, marking the day. IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari hoisted the national flag and Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman hoisted the university flag in front of the university's administrative building around9:00am. Later, teachers, officers, staff and students of the university brought out a colorful procession with banners and festoons, led by the Vice-chancellor, from in front of the university's administrative building around10:00am.
IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari delivered speech at a discussion programme at the auditorium as the chief guest while IU Pro-VC Professor Dr M Shahinoor Rahman, its Treasurer Professor Dr Selim Toha and acting registrar SM Abdul Latif were also present as special guests. After the discussion programme, a cultural function was held with participation of students.
MCJ dept offers Evening Masters at RU
The ninth batch admission process going on for the two-year evening Masters course at the Department of Mass Communication & Journalism (MCJ) department under Rajshahi University (RU). Admission form against payment of Tk 500 available from November 22 to December 26 this year on the dept office premises from 8 am to 2pm every working day. The admission tests against 50 seats will be of MCQ style.
The admission seekers must have the graduation or post graduation degree in any discipline from any university and have at least six points.
The total fee for the programme is Tk one lakh which will cover the entire academic and administrative expenses in four phases. Rabindra Bharati University VC meets DU VC
Vice-Chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata Professor Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman at his office of the university.
He was accompanied by Professor Aditya Prasad Mitra, Dean of the Faculty of Visual Arts, Professor Ashis Kumar Das, Director of Centre for Bangladesh Studies, Professor Ishani Naskar and Dr Chitta Ranjan Mondal of the same university, said a DU press release here. Proctor of DU Professor AKM Golam Rabbani, Chairperson of the Department of Dance Professor Rezwana Choudhury Bannya and some other teachers, among others, were present on the occasion. During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of strengthening the ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes being conducted by the DU and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata.
Holding of ‘DU Festival’ in Kolkata in December under joint auspices of the two universities were also discussed at the meeting.
Salman Ispahani becomes Trustee of ESTCDT
The Education, Science, Technology and Cultural Development Trust (ESTCDT), the founding trust of Independent University, Bangladesh and Chittagong Independent University welcomed Mirza Salman Ispahani to the Board as a Trustee, says a press release. Mirza Salman Ispahani became Trustee of ESTCDT recently.
He is the managing director of M M Ispahani Limited. A Barrister at Law from Lincolns Inn, Ispahani is currently a Director of Chittagong Stock Exchange Limited. He is chairman of the Tea Traders Association of Bangladesh, the president of the International Cotton Association, Liverpool, UK, (first Bangladeshi to achieve this prestigious position) the Chairman of Ispahani Public School & College, and Vice-President (Golf Wing) of Bhatiary Golf & Country Club, Chittagong. He was also a member of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
He is the immediate past chairman, Board of Trustees, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, Bangladesh. Ispahani serves as the Honorary Consul of Italy, Chittagong.
39 to vie for each seat in IU intake tests
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY: Some 39 students will vie for a seat in the admission tests for first year honours courses of Islamic University (IU) under the 2017-18 academic session.
The university authorities have sold a total of 87,388 application forms against 2,275 seats, said IU acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif on Monday afternoon.
Some 2,082 students have applied against 240 seats for ‘A’ unit under the Theology Faculty while 14,398 against 420 seats for ‘B’ unit under Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty, 17,435 against 375 seats for ‘C’ unit under Social Sciences Faculty, 16,646 against 250 seats for ‘D’ unit under Applied Science and Technology Faculty, 12,946 against 200 seats for ‘E’ unit under Applied Science and Technology Faculty, 3,759 against 100 seats for ‘F’ unit under Businesses Administration Faculty, 9,118 against 450 seats for ‘G’ unit under Business Administration Faculty and 10,731 against 240 for ‘H’ unit under Law and Shariyah Faculty. The intake tests are scheduled to be held from December 1 to 5.
‘Liberation War Corner’ launched at BRUR
RANGPUR: The authority of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) launched the ‘Liberation War Corner’ at the Central Library and Information Centre (CLIC) on the campus on Monday.
Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah inaugurated it at a function here, said a press release.
Presided over by Librarian of the CLIC Professor Dr Parimal Chandra Barman, Provost (In-charge) of Bangabandhu Hall Tabiur Rahman Prodhan, Assistant Proctors Atiur Rahman and Sadrul Islam Sarker, among others, were present.
