Great Issue Overall

Last week’s issue of the Weekend Independent was certainly a great read. It is always a great pleasure reading anything regarding the Father of the Nation and last week, I thoroughly enjoyed the section with some of Bangabandhu’s quotes, which was truly inspiring. In addition, I also enjoyed the other pieces. The feature about the millionaire who rescues migrants at sea, the piece on Turks in Germany written by Naima Gofran  and the article on Gavaskar and Boycott. I remember last week, I was sitting by the living room and read the entire magazine at one go. It truly was an enjoyable read. I am eagerly looking forward to next week’s issue and I hope it will be as captivating as last week’s issue.

Marriage article

For the last two weeks, the Weekend Independent included some pieces that I personally could relate with. There was the one about women at work and last week, the article 50/50 in marriage pretty much spoke my mind. I have seen so many nuclear families where both the husband and wife are busy with demanding jobs, yet is a given that the wife will come back and take responsibilities for the household tasks and preparing meals. I agree that our society has come a long way, but I agree even more to the fact that it still has a long way to go. The empowerment is there and this empowerment has to be driven. I hope that as years pass, mentalities of some people will also change. Thank you for the great article.

Traffic Jam

Everyone who lives in Dhaka has experiences traffic jam on a daily basis and with time it is only getting worst. It has become part of our everyday lives. I believe the traffic situation of Dhaka has gone out of control. There are simply too many people and vehicles on the streets of Dhaka. Many experts have given different opinions and solutions on the matter. Some said we need to expand Dhaka and develop other parts of the country so people decide to stay there. Some have suggested we consider relocating the capital but I am not sure we have that kind of land mass to make it possible. Now I believe we should not only confine ourselves in watching the talk shows where experts give ideas that are hardly used, rather we can help ourselves by taking the right steps. Throughout the modern world people have to pay for parking and for illegal parking people have to pay fines. I believe we can introduce that, but just making up rules are not going to help, we need to implement them. The drivers, pedastrains, rickshawpullers, all must obey the law. Cooperation from all sides is the only solution.
