2 held over question leak

Detectives yesterday arrested two members of a gang involved in leaking questions papers of nurse appointment examination.

They were arrested from capital's Shahbagh area. The arrestees Ariful Islam and Saiful Islam work at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as senior staff nurses and were involved with question paper leak of nurse appointment exams, a DMP release said.

"DB recovered 11 sets of question papers of nurse appointment exams from the their possessions," the release said. "DB team raided the area at around 10.45 pm and arrested the duo as they were waiting to sell the question papers to the potential buyers. On primary interrogation, the duo confessed that they sell question paper for money," it added. A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station in this regard.

4 killed in Ctg road crashes         

Chittagong: Four people were killed and three others injured in two road accidents in Sitakunda and Hathazari upazilas of the district yesterday.

Officer-in-charge Belal Uddin of Hathazari Police Station said two unidentified youths were killed when an armored vehicle of Bangladesh Army hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Munshi Mosque area here around 8:30am, leaving four people injured.

The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where two of them succumbed to their injuries, said Nayek Hamid at CMCH police outpost.

In another accident in Sitakunda, a moving bus hit a motorbike around 2:30am, leaving Apu Das, 25, Bidyut Das, 27, hailing from Ghatfarhadbeg of the port city, dead on the spot and another injured, said Jahangir Alam, an inspector at Kumira highway police outpost.

Cloths worth Tk 1.5cr seized

Chittagong: Customs officials seized a huge consignment of cloths, worth about Tk 1.5 crore, from Chittagong port for importing those without valid documents.

Tarek Mahmud, assistant director of CIID Chittagong, said they seized the high-quality polyester cloths imported by ‘Apparel Options (Pvt) Limited’ of Gazi Shah Lane in the port city from China using fake documents, including LC. He said legal action will be taken against the importer and clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent in this connection.

Youth held with 20,000 Yaba

Intelligence officials under Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in a drive arrested a young man along with 20,000 pieces of contraband Yaba pills from Shantinagar area in the capital on Thursday.

The arrestee was identified as Ishak Hossain Togor, 28.

Tipped off that a group of drug smugglers were sending two consignments of Yaba tablets to Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka through SA Paribahan hidden in musical equipment, DNC officials of Dhaka Intelligence Zone conducted the drive at the Shantinagar counter of SA Paribahan.

When Togor came to receive the harmoniums from the SA Paribahan counter, the narcotics officials arrested him and recovered the illegal consignment.

Jamaat man arrested in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong district police arrested a Jamaat man from Sadha village under Satkania upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The arrested was identified as Mohammad Rafique, 30.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police of Satkania police station conducted a raid at Salda village and arrested him.

Police said he is accused in 16 cases, including arson attack and vandalism.

Commemorative meeting held

A memorial discussion and doa mahfil of two judges was held at the conference room of Rangpur court building on Wednesday.

The judicial officials of Rangpur organised the memorial discussion while Senior District and Sessions Judge of Rangpur Humayun Kabir was in the chair. In the function he delivered his speech and recalling the memories of Senior Assistant Judges heavenly Jagannath Panre and Shaheed Sohel Ahmed, said a press release.
