A five-day Jor (preparatory) Ijtema, a congregation of Muslims, began on the bank of the Turag River in Tongi after Fajar prayers on Friday, reports UNB. The Jor Ijtema is being held ahead of the two-phase Biswa Ijtema, the world congregation of Muslims which is scheduled to be held from January 12 to 14 and January 19 to 21, 2018 at the same venue. The ijtema began with 'a'm bayan' (general sermons) by Bangladeshi Islamic scholar Maulana Rabiul Islam and it will conclude till November 21. Devotees from different parts of the country and abroad joined the Ijtema. At the end of the five-day Jor Ijtema, the participants will spread around to invite devotees to join the main Ijtema.
