Reigning champions Dhaka Dynamites consolidated its position as the table topper of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) after both of the matches of the tournament yesterday were washed out without a ball being bowled at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
The off-seasonal rain continued pouring all day long to force the match between Khulna Titans vs Sylhet Sixers and Dhaka Dynamites vs Chittagong Vikings being abandoned. Thereby the points were shared, keeping Dhaka in its top position.
Both Sylhet Sixers and Dhaka Dynamites now have 7 points although Dhaka played one match lesser than Sylhet’s six games. Dhaka who had a slow start to the tournament, losing the opening game to Sylhet, have the run rate in their favour due to their superior performance in the last three matches in which they won consecutively. However Dhaka still would rue to share the points, considering Chittagong Vikings has already emerged as the weakest team of the tournament.
Sylhet on the other hand lost the momentum after winning first three matches in a row. Their rot began in the last match of the Sylhet part when they lost to Khuna Titans by six wickets. In the first game of the Dhaka part they were then crushed by Dhaka Dynamites who thrashed Sylhet by eight wickets with 73 balls to spare. Yesterday’s match against Khulna Titans was the match for them to take revenge of the loss that hurt their winning spree.
Khulna Titans remained unmoved by the outcome of the yesterday’s game. They have now five points in five matches and they retained their fourth place. The way they have been performing, they were expected to win the game against Sylhet again.
Although Chittagong Vikings had slim chance against Dhaka, still they expected to a game at least because the point sharing left them in bottom place. They have now three points in five matches and is in sixth place but if Rangpur win their next game against Comilla Victorians, they would slip to bottom place.
