A Bangladeshi national was shot dead by Indian BSF along the Burimari frontier in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Farid Mia (22), son of Shamsul Islam, of Ambari village under the upazila.
The BSF opened fire when Farid, along with several other men, entered into the Indian territory near border pillar 840.
Confirming the incident, commanding officer of Rangpur BGB 61 Battalion Lt. Col Mehedi Hasan said that they have sent a protest letter. The BGB held a flag meeting with its Indian counterpart from 9.30 am to 12 noon on the issue. Later, the dead body was handed over to Mekligonj police station.
