BSMMU Syndicate approves IPNA as institute
Syndicate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University has approved “Establishment of Institute of Paediatric Neurodisorder and Autism (IPNA)” project as full-fledged institute first ever and only for this university, says a press release.
The 68th meeting of syndicate was held on Tuesday chaired by Prof Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, vice-chancellor, BSMMU. Among others Dr Md. Mozammel Hossain, MP, Dr Rustom Ali Faraji, MP, Md. Mahboob Ali, MP, Prof. Md. Nazrul Islam, ex-vice chancellor, BSMMU, Prof. Shahidullah Sikder, pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed, pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr Zakaria Swapon, Treasurer Prof Dr Md Ali Asgar Morol, Professor of Paediatric Neurology and IPNA Director Prof Dr Shaheen Akhter were present at the meeting.
With the tireless effort of Saima Wazed Hossain - the daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh and support from government, IPNA started its journey in 2010 in the name of Centre for Neurocevelopment and Autism in Children.
Campus recruitment programme held at IUB
A campus recruitment programme by Augmedix was held at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Tuesday the IUB campus in the capital, says a press release.
The programme was organised by Career Guidance and Placement (CGP) Office of IUB. Augmedix is a silicon valley based multinational company that uses Google glass to connect US doctors with Bangladesh-based scribe assistants. Scribes will assist the doctors by creating records of the patients who are visiting the doctors. These records will be filled up with full of disease histories and relevant information. Rashed Noman, Bangladesh Country Manager of Augmedix, made different presentations on company’s history, HR policies and career grooming aspects for management trainees .
Prof Alam appointed as UGV VC
A valiant freedom fighter and noted Agricultural Economist Professor Dr Jahangir Alam Khan has been appointed as Vice-chancellor (VC) of the University of Global Village (UGV), Barisal for next 4 years, said a press release here yesterday.
President and Chancellor of the University Md. Abdul Hamid has recently made this appointment. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Alam was holding the position of Professor of Agriculture Economics and Acting Vice Chancellor of the UGV.
He obtained his Bachelor of Social Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Social Science (M. Sc) degrees in Agriculture Economics in 1972 and 1973 respectively from the Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. He acquired Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand in 1983 and completed Post-Doctoral studies from Lincoln University, New Zealand in 1998.
He worked as the Director General of the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, Savar, Dhaka from 2006 to 2009 and Member Director (Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology) of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council from 2001 to 2006.
Dr Alam was the Former President of Bangladesh Agricultural Economists’ Association.
University of Technology Thonburi to provide scholarship to Bangladeshi students
King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand is willing to provide scholarship to Bangladeshi students in Masters and Ph.D programme in areas of Engineering, Information Technology, Bio-technology and Business Studies, says a press release.
The KMUTT, in this regard, wants to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh for further progress of the move.
The interest was shown when a-three member KMUTT delegation led by Dr Budsakayt Intarapasan, Assistant to the President for Student Development, KMUTT called on UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan at the latter’s office on Wednesday. Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC and Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC among others, were present during the meeting. Mrs. Kunyakamol Khiewvarn, Academic Services Officer, Admissions and Recruitment Office, KMUTT assisted Budsakayt Intarapasan during the call on.
DU to observe World Philosophy Day today
World Philosophy Day-2017 will be observed at Dhaka University (DU) today.
Marking the day, DU Philosophy Department, Philosophy Department Alumni Association and Govinda Dev Centre of Philosophical Research will organise a discussion at Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium at 10 am, said a DU release here on Tuesday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman will attend the ceremony as the chief guest while Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Professor Nasreen Ahmad and Arts Faculty Dean Professor Dr Abu Md Delwar Hosain will be present as special guests.
Chairman of DU Philosophy Department Dr Md Sajahan Miah will preside over the function while Philosophy Department Professor AKM Haroonar Rashid will present the keynote paper titled “Thoughts on Secular State” in the function, the release added. Director of Govinda Dev Centre of Philosophical Research Professor Dr Pradip Kumar Roy will give the welcome speech. Earlier, a procession will be brought out from the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla at 9:30 am marking the day.
IU forms probe body against staff
The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia formed a five- member committee to investigate into the allegation of corruption against a staff of transport section of the university on Monday night.
Headed by Prof Dr Ahsan-Ul-Ambia, provost of Banggamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib hall, M Ataur Rahman, IU central librarian in-charge, is the member secretary of the committee. The other members of the committee are- University transport administrator Prof Dr M Anowar Hossen, former IUTA president Prof Dr M Yakub Ali and Prof Dr M Mahbubar Rahman.
