2-day ACM-ICPC Asia Dhaka regional contest concludes

A two-day “ACM-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC)-2017” was concluded at the city campus of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Sunday.

UAP Computer Science and Engineering Department organised the final round of the contest titled “2017 ACM-ICPC Asia Dhaka Regional Contest”, said a press release yesterday.

In the final round of the competition, BUET Dracarys bagged the champions trophy while BUET NeverMind, SUST_TeamX became first and second runners-up respectively.

State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak addressed the closing ceremony as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.

UAP Vice-Chancellor and Asia Regional Contest Director, Dhaka Professor Dr Jamilur Reza Choudhury presided over the function that was addressed, among others, by Engineer Mohammad Enamul Kabir and UAP Board of Trustees Chairman Qayum Reza Chowdhury.

Two or three teams, secured top position in the contest, are likely to take part in the world finals to be held in Beijing hosted by Peking University from April 15 to 20 in 2018.

RUET launches computer networking course

RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) has launched an advance level training course on computer networking in order to make its teachers, officers and employees skilled on the modern communication technology.

RUET Vice chancellor Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg said this while addressing the closing and certificate-giving ceremony of a month-long computer networking training course on Sunday as the chief guest.

RUET’s Central Computer Center and Planning and Development Branch jointly organised the course titled “Basic Concept and Computer Networking” with financial support from Education and Research Project of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC).

VC Prof Beg said there is no alternative to adopting modern technology to take the present socio-economic condition forward in this competitive world.

He said the present government is working relentlessly for reaching IT services at the doorsteps of the people for building Digital Bangladesh.

Prof Beg added that the government has imparted training to 55,000 students on information and communication technology transforming them into skilled manpower.

Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof Abdul Alim and Prof Shahid Uz Zaman of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering also spoke with Administrator of Central Computer Centre Prof Bashir Ahmed in the chair.

Seminar on research methodology held at BRUR

RANGPUR: A seminar on “Research Methodology” was held at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) on Thursday.

Dr Wazed International Research and Training Institute (DWIRTI) of the university organised the seminar at its virtual class room of academic building no-2 in the campus, said a press release.

Director of DWIRTI and Vice-chancellor of BRUR Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah attended the launching session and formally inaugurated the seminar.

Scientific Officer of DWRTI Abu Sayem Md Ahsan Habib delivered welcome speech narrating objectives of the event.

Prof of the Department of Development Studies of Dhaka University (DU) Dr Shuchita conducted the seminar as the keynote speaker.

Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of BRUR Prof Ferdous Rahman addressed the seminar moderated by Assistant Prof of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of BRUR Tabiur Rahman.

Research fellows and officials of DWIRTI, teachers and students of different departments of the university participated in the seminar.

Dr Shuchita discussed about various aspects of research methodologies, answered questions asked by participants and forwarded suggestions for successfully conducting research activities.

She thanked the BRUR authority for arranging the event and hoped that research fellows of the DWIRTI would be able to enrich their knowledge for conducting research works through participating in similar seminars in future.
