PM stands by ailing poet Akhtar Hussain

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday donated Tk 32 lakh for the treatment of eminent poet and rhymester Akhtar Hussain, reports UNB. “The Prime Minister handed over a cheque for the amount to Akhtar Hussain at her Tejgaon office yestedray noon,” PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters. Akhtar Hussain, the Bangla Academy award-winning poet, has been suffering from prostate gland cancer. Receiving the cheque, he expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the donation. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor were present on the occasion. Earlier, the Prime Minister donated Tk 3 lakh for his treatment. Akhtar Hussain authored a book named “Janaker Mukh” on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
