A third wicket stand of 192 between Towhid Hridoy (120) and Saif Hassan (90) piloted Bangladesh U-19 cricket team to maul the host Malaysia U-19 team by comprehensive 262 runs in the second match of the Group-A in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup 20017at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Put in to bat first, Bangladesh youth piled on a healthy 335 for six on the board largely thanks to Towhid Hridoy (120) and Saif Hassan (90), after which Malaysia youth managed to put on a paltry 73 for eight in the stipulated 50 overs.
After losing openers Naim Sheikh (13) and Pinak Ghosh (12), captain Saif Hassan together with Towhid Hridoy made a gritty resistance against Malaysian bowlers and put on 192 runs for the third wicket stand that built up a good base for the tourists. Before being caught, the Tigers’ captain clobbered 90 off 120 that studded with three sixes and five boundaries Saif.
Therefore, Towhid attempted to stretch the total further and pulled together 46 runs with Afif Hossain before his dismissal. Towhid clattered a run-a-ball 120 that emblazoned with seven fours and four sixes.
Aminul Islam (39 not out), Afif Hossain (21) and Mahidul Islam Ankon (16) were the other notable contributors of the Bangladesh side.
Muhammad Hafiz, who was the most successful bowler of the local side, gave away 78 runs to pick up four wickets.
Chasing the stiff target of 336 to win, Malaysian side began losing wickets at regular interval. Only Virandeep Singh crossed the double figure mark, clubbing 46. Shakhawat Hossain grabbed three wickets and Afif Hossain snared two wickets for the winning side.
