439 headmasters lying vacant

Netrakona: Primary education in the district is being seriously hampered due to shortage of Assistant Upazila Education Officers (AUEO) and head teachers, reports UNB.

Some 25 posts of AUEO and 439 posts of headmasters are lying vacant in the district, hampering proper monitoring, management and regular academic activities.

According to district primary education office sources, most of the posts are lying vacant in schools of Sadar, Kalmakanda, Kendua, Durgapur, Purbadhala and Madan upazilas.

Some 350,568 students are studding in 1,294 government primary schools including lately nationalised schools in 10 upazilas of the district, according to the district primary education office.

As many as 439 posts of head teachers out of 1,248 approved posts remained vacant.

On the other hand, some 46 newly approved government primary schools in the district are also running without any regular headmaster as those have no approved post for head teachers.

Sources said 81 posts of head teachers out of 159 posts in Kalmakanda upazila have been lying vacant while 39 of 101 in Aatpara, 62 of 183 in Kendua, 52 of 120 in Durgapur, 48 of 186 in Sadar, 42 of 175 in Purba Dhala, 29 of 93 in Barhatta, 41 of 87 in Madan, 18 of 87 in Mohonganj and 27 of 58 in Khaliajuri.

District primary education office sources said 25 posts AUEO out of 46 have been lying vacant in the district. Of those, two of four AUEO posts are lying vacant in Aatpara Upazila education office, two of five in Kalmakanda, four of seven in Kendua, two of four in Durgapur, two of seven Sadar, five of six in Purba Dhala, three of four in Barhatta, two of four in Mohonganj and three in Madan for long.
