The High Court yesterday commuted the death sentence of the lone convict, Faizul Islam, in the Supreme Court lawyer Sayma Khanam murder case to life imprisonment, reports UNB. A bench of Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty passed the order. The Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 in 2011 sentenced Faizul to death for killing Sayma. Former cultural affairs secretary of Dhaka Bar Association Advocate Sayma Khanam wasslaughtered inside her Elephant Road apartment in Dhaka on July 17, 2007. Later, victim's husband filed a case with New Market Police Station in this connection. The law enforcers arrested Faizul Islam tracking the call list of the victim's mobile phone who later confessed to killing the female lawyer.
