Third edition ends with promises to return next year

At the conclusion of his speech, Sun Communications Chairman Anjan Chowdhury said, “We will see you again next year. With everyone’s cooperation, Sun Communications will arrange the event once again.” During the formal closing ceremony of the third edition of Dhaka International Folk Fest, Cultural Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was present as chief guest and eminent singer Nashid Kamal was present as special guest. Asaduzzaman Noor made the formal announcement of the closing of the three-day event on Saturday night at the Bangladesh Army Stadium in the capital.

In his speech, Anjan Chowdhury expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Army and all partners of the event for their cooperation.

After the performance of Shahnaz Beli, a formal closing ceremony held on Saturday in between the performances. During her performance, Shahnaz Beli rendered the songs like ‘Amrita Megher Bari’, ‘Aaylai Na Aaylai Na’, ‘Kon Mistiri Nao Banailo’, ‘Tumi Koto Bochhor Por Aaiya’, ‘Agun Lagaiya Dilo Mone’, ‘Prem Rosika Habo Kamone’ and others.

The evening of the final day opened with the Palagan of Shah Alam Sarkar and Alea Begum.

After the closing ceremony, Mikael Hemniti Winther from Denmark took the stage. Then, 10-member troupe Rastak from Iran came to perform on the stage. They enthralled the audience with performance delivered with the use of exceptional musical instruments. They received a big round of applause from the audience.

Next, Basudeb Das Baul from India performed on the stage. The audiences were seen dancing in a circle during the performance of the troupe as they came up with a few familiar songs.

Around 12 midnight, Grammy winning troupe Tinariwen from Mali took the stage. They fascinated the audience with their mesmerising performance. With their final performance, the three-day festival concluded.

This year, 140 artistes from eight countries, including Bangladesh performed during the three-day Dhaka International Folk Fest 2017.
