With staging the play ‘Shraman’ by Kalyani Natya Bhabna from West Bengal, India, the weeklong theatre festival ‘Itihaser Mohanayokera’ will conclude today. Dramatised by Nirup Mitra and directed by Taposh Chakraborty, the play will be staged at 7pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the capital.
Organised by Universal Theatre, as many as seven much-acclaimed plays by the well-known troupes from Bangladesh and India are the part of the weeklong festival. The participating troupes are—Palakar from Dhaka, Chittagong District Shilpakala Academy Repertory, Loko Natyadal, Aranyank, host troupe Universal Theatre and Kalyani Natya Bhabna from West Bengal, India.
The festival sheds light on the life and works of Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore, Baul Samrat Lalon, Surya Sen, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Mahatma Gandhi, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Gautam Buddha by staging different plays related to them.
The plays of the festival include ‘Banglar Mati Banglar Jol’ (Palakar) ‘Baramkhana’ (Theatre), ‘Surjasen’ (Chittagong District Shilpakala Academy Repertory), ‘Mujib Manei Mukti’ (Loko Natyadal), ‘Mahatma’ (Universal Theatre), ‘Ebong Vidyasagar’ (Aranyak Natyadal) and ‘Shraman’ (Kalyani Natya Bhabna).
The festival is supported by Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka Bank and Bank Asia.
