Foreign players dominate
in BPL Sylhet phase

The first phase of the Bangladesh Premier League(BPL) was crammed with excitement surprise and incident ended in Sylhet on Wednesday. The hillock-girt Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) hosted eight BPL matches for the first time in the last five days including a break day, whereby foreign players showcased their dexterity with bat and ball more than the local battery. Incidentally not a single local player could blast a half-century during the Sylhet phase.

Upul Tharanga of Sylhet Sixers top-scored with 196 that he made from four matches with the best of unbeaten 69 averaging 65.33. Sri Lanka born batsman, the only batsman so far smashed three half-centuries on the trot. He was followed by Andre Fletcher of Sixers and Luke Ronchi of Chittagong Vikings with 151 and 118 respectively. Marlon Samuels of Comilla Victorians and Evin Lewis of Dhaka Dynamited are in the race with fourth and fifth corresponding with 95 and 92 though they all played two matches lesser than Upul and Fletcher.  

In bowling department, Liam Plunkett of Sylhet Sixers topped the table with six wickets. He played three matches to grab the wickets with the best figures of 3-29. Spinner Taijul Islam and pacer Abul Hasan Raju placed second and third with the identical five wickets. Obviously, the duo played one match more than their teammate Plunkett.

Rashid Khan of Camilla Victorians though snapped one wicket showcased the best economy rate of 4.87.

Sabbir Rahman Rumman took the most six catches from four matches for the Sixers, who finished the phase on top with six points. The rest of the teams chipped in with one win except Rajshahi Kings, who languished in the rock bottom with zero point. Dhaka Dynamites among the teams placed second with better net run rate.

Comilla Victorians, Rangpur Riders and Chittagong Vikings are languishing at the third, fourth and fifth place respectively with two points.

The second phase of the BPL will begin in Dhaka with the matches of Rangpur Riders vs Rajshahi Kings and Dhaka Dynamited vs Sylhet Sixers on November 11, the matches will be held on the basis of the new timings what the BPL governing council announced to mitigate the sufferings  of the spectators and simplify the work of the curators.
