Govt working for teachers’ skill development: Minister

The government is working to improve professional skills of all teachers in the country, said Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman yesterday, reports UNB. “Adequate scope is being created for professional skills development of all teachers,” he said at the inaugural function of an international conference in the capital.

The conference titled ‘Changing Learning Changing Lives: Celebration of 10 years of English in Action (EIA)’ was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

The minister said learning English language is very much essential for effective communication with the world and surviving in the global competitive job markets.

He said the English language programme ‘EIA’ is playing very important role to remove Anglophobia from teachers and students in the country by using creative method, materials and technology.

EIA Programme Director Dr Md Alamgir Hossain presided over the function.

The EIA is now being implemented through a partnership between the UK and Bangladesh.

Terming the teachers as the torch-bearers of society, Mostafizur Rahman  said the teachers inspire the learners to imbibe them with moral values by enlightening their psyche.

The teachers, he said, use to guide the learners to make their marks in the global competition crossing the country’s geographical boundary.

Adequate opportunities are being created, the minister said, to further develop professional skill of the teachers.

He said the project ‘English in Action’ is playing an effective role in helping both teachers and learners acquire efficiency in English language.

The minister urged teachers and students to utilize their experiences earned through the EIA project for strengthening the country’s education system.

Deputy country head of DFID Jim Mc Alpine, Director of International Economic and Social Development John Shotton and Director of Open University UK international Office Methew Faster attended the function as special guests.
