BTRC to form body to curb cyber crime

UNB

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Committee (BTRC) is looking to undertake a holistic initiative to form a central organization comprising law enforcers, detective branches and security agencies in order to curb cyber crime in the country and to increase cyber security, reports UNB. A proposal has been prepared in this regard which will be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as early as possible, said a press release. The central organisation will be made for stronger surveillance on cyber crime, investigating incidents, and tracing the perpetrators. The BTRC also took steps to establish technical system with a view to helping police in their investigation and identifying cyber criminals. The press release also said BTRC officials held several meetings with law enforcing agencies and other security agencies to check cyber crime. Apart from BTRC, several information and technology departments of the government and law enforcing agencies have been performing in their respective fields to bring down cyber crime. However, BTRC doesn’t monitor social media networking sites including Facebook and Twitter as the authority doesn’t have any memorandum of understanding or treaty with the social media sites. In case of any need, BTRC communicate with the social media networking sites according their own rules and regulations.
