ACC running for positive changes to quicken trial proceedings

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been trying to bring some positive changes in conducting inquiries and investigations within the stipulated time to make quicker its activities, especially the trial proceedings, reports BSS.

"We are trying to bring some positive changes in inquires and investigations, and complete probes within the stipulated timeframe set by the rules," ACC Deputy Director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told BSS at his office on Tuesday.

The commission has been working for ensuring quality of probes into the graft charges, he said adding that ACC officials have been asked to complete inquiry into graft allegations and investigation into corruption cases in the stipulated time to bring dynamism it its activities, he said.

It has also asked the authorities concerned to make sure the appearance of witnesses before the court on each of the fixed dates with the concerned ACC lawyers with a view to making quicker the trial process, he said, adding that it has also decided to give DA (dearness allowance) to the prosecution witnesses to ensure their timely appearance in the court.

The ACC spokesperson said they have earlier experienced delay in the trial process for frequent changes of the dates due to the failure of placing witnesses before the court by the prosecution.

It has appointed 20 lawyers after cancelling appointment of 20 lawyers for their ineffectiveness in a bid to making the ACC prosecution team more effective to dispose of the long pending cases, he added.

Besides, the ACC officials have been asked to fix individual criminal charges to get the orders in favour of the commission, he informed.
