2 die in car gas cylinder blast
STAFF REPORTER, Sirajganj
Two people were killed in a gas cylinder explosion inside a private car at Sattikri in Sirajganj on the Bogra-Rajshahi Highway on Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Sujon Sheikh, 35, of Gangachara village in Rangpur and his friend Jannatul Bakeya, 30, of Badullahpur village in Bogra.
Police and witnesses said the car first hit the roadside tree and caught fire following the gas cylinder explosion at around 9.30pm, leaving the two dead on the spot.
Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Pregnant woman hacked dead
Madaripur: A pregnant woman was hacked to death allegedly by her husband over family feud at Kumartek village in Sadar upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Parveen Begum, 25, a resident of Ghunsi village in the upazila.
Family sources said Samrat Matobbar, a resident of the village, had married Parveen Begum around seven years ago.Officer-in charge of Sadar Model Police Station (Investigation) Md Shahajahan said on Monday night Shamrat and Parveen locked into an altercation over a family issue.At one stage, Samrat hacked two months’ pregnant, Parveen, with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.
Parveen was rushed to Madaripur Sadar Hospital first.
Later as her condition worsened, Parveen was referred to Faridpur Medical Collage Hospital and she died on way.
Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Faridpur Medical Collage Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Police arrested Samrat Matobbar in this connection.
Child marriage bid foiled

An attempt to arrange child marriage was foiled in Basail upazila of Tangail on Monday night.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Basail Milia Sharmin said marriage of Bhagha Sarkar, 14, a student of class-X of Basail Pilot Girls’ High School, was due to be solemnised with one Provat Sarker of neighbouring upazila.
Guests of the bride and bridegroom gathered at the house of the bride at night. All preparation was done for the wedding ceremony. As directed by the UNO AC (Land) Nazmul Ahsan reached the spot and persuaded the parents of the minor girl to stop the ceremony.
45 injured in Sirajganj clash
Sirajganj: At least 45 people, including three women, were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over playing cards in municipality area of the district town on Monday, reports UNB.
Officer-in charge of Sadar Police Station Habibul Islam said villagers of Boirapara and Wapda More had locked in several clashes over playing cards in the last few days.
As a sequel to the enmity, residents of both villages attacked each other on Monday morning, leaving at least 45 people injured.Twenty-one of the injured were rushed to the local clinics and hospitals.At least 12 shops and houses were vandalised during the clash.Being informed, police rushed in and fired 10 rounds of bullet to disperse them and arrested four people.
