Foundation stone of hatchery and
wet lab laid at JUST
The foundation stone of world-standard hatchery and wet lab was laid at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST) to upgrade the research work of fisheries and marine sciences.
Professor Dr M Anwar Hossain, vice chancellor of the university, laid the foundation stone of the lab on the campus on Saturday, said a press release.
The hatchery and wet lab will be run under the supervision of the department of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of the university.
Dr Mohammad Mir Mosharraf Hossain, an associate professor of Fisheries and Marine Sciences department, also the investigator of the project, said the lab will be helpful for producing quality fish fry. He also said it will play vital role in research work of genetic engineering for producing quality fish fry, nutrition and health management of mother fish. The lab will be very helpful for the practical classes of the students of the department, he hoped. Deans, chairpersons, teachers, students and high officials of the university were present on the occasion.
DU confers reception to 32 retired professors
Dhaka University (DU) conferred reception to 32 retired professors on Saturday with a view to honouring the contribution of the teachers to academia of the public university.
DU Teachers' Association (DUTA) organised the programme at Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium on the campus, said a press release here yesterday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Akhtaruzzaman was the chief guest of the programme moderated by DUTA President Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal.
Pro VC (Academic) Prof Dr Nasrin Ahmad and Treasurer Prof Dr M Kamal Uddin, DUTA General Secretary Prof Dr M Rhamat Ullah, among others, spoke at the event.
The speakers highlighted the contribution of the retired teachers while the professors recalled their memories in the university.
Rangamati Science and Technology University gets 64 acres land
Rangamati Science and Technology University (RSTU) has got 64 acres of land for its permanent campus in Rangamati district.
Rangamati Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Manjarul Mannan, in a function at his office on Saturday, handed over the ownership document of the land to University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Abdul Manna, said a UGC press release here today. UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan attended the ownership handing over ceremony as the chief guest with Rangamati DC Mohammad Manjarul Mannan in the chair. Bangladesh Agricultural University Professor Dr. Manik Lal Chakma, high officials of Rangamati district administration and university teachers and officials were present in the function.
The site for permanent campus of the university is located at Jagrabheel mouza, about six kilometers away from the city centre.
Addressing the function, the UGC chairman said it is due to the personal initiative of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that the acquisition of the land has been possible.
He announced that with the help of the local community, it may be possible to shift some of the classes of the university to the permanent campus by the middle of the next year. Currently, around 300 students are enrolled in the university and their classes are held in a local high school. Later, the UGC chairman handed over the documents to RSTU Vice-Chancellor Dr Pradanendu Bikash Chakma.
Alumni assembly held at IU
The Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia held at 1st alumni assembly at conference room of Humanities and Social Science Faculty on Saturday on the campus.
IU Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department organised the 1st alumni programme around 11am. Professor Dr A K M Waliullah, founder chairman of Al-Hadith and Islamic Studies department was present here as the chief guest while Professor Dr M Nasir Uddin chairman of the department was in the chair. Professor Dr M Sofiqul Islam conducted the programme with Professor Dr M Sekander Ali, Professor Dr M Zakir Hossein and Professor Dr M Moynul Haque of the same department attend the function as the special guest.
