The captaincy is not new thing for Nasir Hossain as the all-rounder meanwhile led Bangladesh ‘A’ team and different level teams at domestic circuits. But Nasir captained Sylhet Sixers and scripted two straight victories for the team.
Following their comprehensive nine-wicket victory against hot-favourites Dhaka Dynamites in the curtain raiser fixture, Sylhet Sixers thrashed Comilla Victorians by four wickets in the second outing, subsequently Nasir Hossain appeared in at post-match briefing wherein he frankly acknowledged that he is enjoying his captaincy for Sixers in BPL.
“I feel very well as a captain after winning two successive matches in BPL,” said Nasir Hossain.
“There is no small or big team in Twenty20 because one-two players could win the team. May be we have no big names’ players in our team. But those who are in the team have a good understanding among us all. So we have beliefs in our players,” he added.
The Sixers captain said that their better performance in bowling and fielding keep them ahead.
“The difference made the openers. Wicket was flat. We want to do well in our bowling dept especially we want to give less number of boundaries. Such planning we have in matches,” he informed.
“It’s a big thing that they didn’t allow any team to make big scores in two matches. Even our fielding is being done well. In that sense, we are very happy. Overall, we have bowled well. That gives us ahead,” he thought.
When asked about Sylhet dependency more on its openers, Nasir defies it, stating that they have enough players to bat for the team if they fail to shine any situation.
“That’s not right. Openers are playing well so our work is being done easier. But we have so many players in the battery to do well for the team,” the all-rounder said.
“If they do flop any day then we have many players in the Sixers’ line-up to stage a comeback,” he also said.
He said that they were waiting for a boundary what was needed to confirm their victory against Comilla Victorians.
“We had fully faith that we will win the match from the beginning. So, we were expecting a boundary after the fall of the Shuvagata Hom,” he said, adding “Because if you notice you will get to understand that we could not hit boundary for so long. So if we could hit a boundary, we will since win the match. We were waiting earnestly for the boundary.”
“I don’t consider winning the toss is important. But the wicket remains slow in the first match. For this we took fielding after winning the toss and tried to win by chasing,” the 28-year-old told in response to a query.
On the other hand, Comilla Victorians skipper Mohammad Nabi said that they were shy of 10-15 more runs on the board along with dropping catch to cost heavily on them.
“We were short by 10-15 runs. If Marlon and I were at the crease till the 20th over, we could have scored 160,” said Mohammad Nabi.
“(Khulna openers) were batting well in Powerplay so I needed a wicket. I brought in Rashid at that time. He is harder to hit after 10 overs,” Nabi told at his post-match briefing.
“In the last over, we dropped the catch which was the turning point,” he added. Asked about Tamim Iqbal, Afghanistan-born all-rounder said, “We are missing him a lot as an opening batsman, giving us a good start.”
