Man arrested for distorting images of PM, Bangabandhu

Cox’s Bazar: Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly distorting the pictures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and torching local Awami League office in Unchiprang bus station area in Howaikang union of Teknaf upazila, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Maolana Taher Nayeem, 50, son of late Maolana Abdus Salam of Unchiprang village of the upazila.

Md Mainuddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, confirming the incident said he had already visited the spot.

During primary interrogation, Taher Nayeem has confessed his involvement with the incident, the OC said, adding that a sedition case will be filed against him.

Harun Shikdar, president of Howaikang union unit of Awami League, said some 20 to 25 BNP-Jamaat men led by Taher Nayeem ransacked the local AL office and distorted the pictures of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday night.

They also looted the valuables from the AL office, he said.

Harun also said that Taher Nayeem is involved with the politics of local BNP-Jamaat and he was the president of Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal of the upazila unit.

‘Robber gang leader’ held

Gaibandha: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected robber along with three foreign pistols and 15 bullets from char area in Fulchhari upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.

Based on secrete information that a gang of bandits, led by its leader Rezaul Karim, were taking preparation to commit robbery in the char areas, a Rab team conducted a drive there, said deputy company commander of Rab-13 Habibur Rahman.

However, sensing the presence of the elite force members, the robbers fled the scene firing bullets towards the law enforcers, Habibur added.

Following this, Rab personnel chased the robber gang and arrested the mastermind Rezaul Karim along with three pistols and 15 bullets.

Rezaul was wanted in 22 cases, including murder and robbery, with different police stations.

‘Arms trader’ held in Benapole

Police arrested a suspected arms trader along with one foreign-made pistol, two bullets, two magazines and Tk 1.5 lakh in cash from Benapole Bazar on Sunday.

On secret information a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 9:30am and arrested Tariqul, 35 of Putkhali village while he was trying to sell arms and ammunition, said Lt Col Ariful Haque of 49-BGB. A case was filed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

World Blood Donor Day observed in Comilla

World Blood Donor Day was observed through different activities in Comilla on Thursday.

On the occasion Dristanto Foundation awarded seven journalists for their contribution at Nazrul Institute in the district. The awardees are Abdullah-al-Mamun, Md Anwar Hossain, Ashikur Rahman Ashik, Ashikur Rahman Shohel, Md Arifur Rahman Majumder, Mahbub Alam Babu and Delwar Hossain Akaid.

Jagroto Manobikota Foundation, an organization was awarded as well.

Later, a discussion meeting was also held. The meeting was presided over by Md Saif Uddin Roni, district chairman of Dristanto Foundation.

Dr Mojibur Rahman, Comilla civil surgeon was present as the chief guest at the institute. A colorful procession was brought out in the town to mark the day.
