Man to die for killing girl after rape

A court in Mymensingh court yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his niece after rape at Char Iswardia village in Mymensingh sadar upazila in 2015.
The convict was Saiful Islam, 20, of village Char Ishwardia in Mymensingh sadar upazila. The court also fined the convict Tk one lakh, said Najesh Ali Mian, Mymensingh court inspector.
According to the prosecution, a six-year-old girl Sumaiya Akhter, daughter of Md Siraj Mia, a day labourer was alone in her house when her father went out of his house in search of work around 10am on January 23 in 2015.
Victims mother Marzina Khatun, a housemaid along with her four year-old son Jobayer also left the house for work in Mymensingh town in the morning on the same day.
Saiful, a step-brother of Siraj Mia raped the girl around 4pm and to cover up the story Saiful strangled the girl and hung the body from the ceiling of her house.
When Marzina returned home around 5pm, she found Sumaiyas body hanging from the ceiling and started screaming.
Local people rushed to the spot, caught Saiful and handed over him to police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Victims father lodged a case with Kotwali Police Station accusing Saiful. After investigation, police pressed a charge-sheet against Saiful.
After examining witnesses and evidences, Md Helal Uddin, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict yesterday noon.
