The government yesterday appointed noted journalist and Bengali daily Samakal editor Golam Sarwar as the chairman of the board of directors of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), reports BSS. According to a gazette notification of the Information Ministry, the post was remaining vacant following the death of former chairman Habibur Rahman Milon. Journalist Golam Sarwar was born on April 1 in 1943 at Banaripara of Barisal. He obtained his masters degree in Bengali Literature with honours from the Dhaka University in sixties. He started his carrier as a journalist in 1963.
He served at daily "Poygam" and later in different posts at daily "Sangbad" till March 25, 1971. Sarwar played active role in the War of Liberation 1971. He joined daily Ittefaq in 1973.
