Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the icon and captain of Rangpur Riders, said on Friday that they will play in BPL as a unit after forming the team combination of the local and foreign players so that they could reach at their ultimate destination.
He also said that they have to perform well before going to reach at their ultimate target (final) what they set like other teams in the blockbuster tournament.
Rangpur Riders will take on Rajshahi Kings in the second and last match of the opening day which is all set to start at 7pm.
“Our strength, I meant, that we are in a unit and will try to play as a team game,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who won BPL title three times for two different teams.
“Players hail from different places in such tournament. So, forming the team combination is important that we’re now trying to form. It would be better if we could do it,” Mashrafe told at his pre-match day briefing.
The right-handed fast-bowler said that they seek to break into the top four stage before going to reach at their ultimate target to be champions.
“Everybody in such type of the tournament set their target to be champions. But when it is thought then more pressure put on the team,” the paceman said.
“I think, it is more important to go the final stage. Therefore, it comes do-or-die match. And this is more important,” he also said.
Last year Mashrafe played for the then defending champions Comilla Victorians, who had finished their journey from the group stage. This time he will play for Rangpur Riders. So, he said that they could go into the top-four if they could fare well. “Actually I don’t feel anything. Even when we started as defending champions, we don’t think then about it,” he said.
“May be I am such by nature. This time I don’t feel anything. It’s tough to say what will be happened in on-field. But if we could do well we could break into top 4-stage.” Mashrafe, dubbed Narail Express, termed BPL as a platform for the local players, stating that they are some more star-players in BPL from whom their local players could be gathered knowledge.
“BPL is a golden opportunity for the local players who are in T20 league squads this season. There comes some quality local players and many exciting matches will be held,” he said, adding: “Though there are less opportunities of learning in T20, many more things could be experienced from some situation and big players the likes of Kumar Sangakkara. Mahela (Jayawardene) is in BPL as coach. There are many more things to learn from them in which teams they are. We will get to know from them if we want.”
Mashrafe calls upon his national team’s fellow so that they could be focused more on BPL forgetting the worse performance in the last tour of South Africa.
